The Malad-Goregaon IT corridor will get six major transport upgrades between 2026 and 2030. The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road opens its Goregaon flyover in late 2026 and its twin tunnels by late 2028. The Versova to Bhayandar coastal road and the Madh-Versova bridge will add fast routes along the west coast. The Goregaon to Borivali harbour line extension and new Borivali platforms will boost rail capacity. The Thane-Borivali tunnel, due by mid-2028, will link the corridor's northern neighbours to Thane in minutes.

Timelines reflect official targets and news reports. Large projects in Mumbai can shift.

Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR)

The GMLR is a 12.2 km road that links Goregaon in the west with Mulund in the east. The BMC has put the total cost at about ₹14,000 Cr. Its hardest part is a pair of tunnels under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Today, the trip from Goregaon to Mulund can take about 75 minutes. Once complete, the GMLR should cut it to about 25 minutes. That opens Powai, Mulund and the eastern suburbs to people who live and work in the corridor.

The Goregaon-side flyover, from Dindoshi to Film City, has a target opening of October 2026. The Mulund-side flyover should follow by June 2027, and the tunnels by October 2028.

Versova to Bhayandar Coastal Road

This 26.3 km road will run along the coast from Versova, past Malad and Borivali, to Bhayandar. The project costs about ₹22,000 Cr and cleared a key mangrove permit in early 2026. It will open in phases, with most stretches expected between 2027 and 2028.

For the corridor, it offers a faster north-south route that bypasses Link Road and the highway. Traffic on both main roads should ease once the coastal road opens.

Madh-Versova Bridge

The Madh-Versova bridge got its green clearance in October 2025. The project costs about ₹2,400 Cr and was first proposed back in 1967. Today, the road trip from Madh Island to Versova takes up to 90 minutes. The bridge should cut that to just a few minutes, which opens Madh and Marve to faster access.

Rail Upgrades

Harbour Line Extension to Borivali

Western Railway plans to extend the harbour line from Goregaon to Borivali. In May 2026, it floated a ₹86.51 Cr tender for early civil works on this ₹898 Cr project. Once complete, commuters can travel from Malad and Borivali to the harbour line without changing at Goregaon.

New Platforms at Borivali

In September 2026, Western Railway announced two new platforms at Borivali. They form part of a larger rail project and will add 30 to 40 local trains to Virar. Less crowding at Borivali eases the whole northern stretch of the line.

Metro Network in the Corridor

The corridor already enjoys strong metro links, and more are joining up.

Metro Line Route Near the Corridor Status
Line 2A Along Link Road, serving Malad West and Goregaon West Running
Line 7 Along the highway, serving Malad East and Goregaon East Running
Line 3 (Aqua) Ends at Aarey near Goregaon East, runs to South Mumbai Running
Line 9 Links Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar First stretch open, full line due December 2026

Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel

The 11.84 km Thane-Borivali tunnel will run under the national park, just north of the corridor. It should open by mid-2028 and cut the Borivali to Thane drive to 15 to 20 minutes. For corridor workers who live in Borivali, this adds Thane as an easy weekend or work destination.

What These Projects Mean in Daily Life

Here is a simple way to see the change. Today, a trip from Goregaon to Mulund can eat up most of an evening. By 2029, it should take about as long as a short meeting. In the same way, the drive from Borivali to Thane will become a quick hop.

For families, this means more choice of jobs, schools and weekend spots. For investors, it means more people will want to live in the area.

What the Pipeline Means for Home Buyers

  • Faster east-west links widen the job market for corridor residents.
  • The coastal road should ease traffic on Link Road and the highway.
  • Rail upgrades cut crowding on trains for daily commuters.
  • Areas near new links tend to see price growth before projects open.

Suburbs just north of the corridor stand to gain from several projects at once. Borivali, for instance, benefits from the coastal road, the harbour line extension, new platforms and the Thane tunnel. Prestige Grove Park in Borivali plans to hand over homes in December 2031, after most of these open.
